Over a Thousand Children Celebrate Local Food Production at Pembrokeshire Food Story Event

1,200 schoolchildren from across Pembrokeshire, from Year 2 to Year 6, took part in a highly successful Food Story event organised by the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society. Held on 11 and 12 February 2026 at the Pembrokeshire County Showground, this year’s fully booked event embraced the theme “Let’s Celebrate”, highlighting the nutritious, delicious food produced locally across the county.

During the two-day event, potato, dairy and sheep farmers from across Pembrokeshire volunteered their time to speak with pupils and deliver hands-on demonstrations. Children learned how vegetables, dairy products and meat are produced, while also gaining an understanding of sustainable farming practices, caring for local wildlife, and looking after the countryside.
Alongside food production, the event also taught children about seasonality, how weather and climate affect farming, different food groups, and the importance of healthy eating.

The Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society would like to thank South Hook LNG, NFU Mutual Pembrokeshire, the CLA Charitable Trust and Women in Wales for their financial support. Thanks also go to the Camrose Vintage Working Day for their support, as well as the National Farmers' Union and Wales Farm Safety for providing educational resources for schools and pupils.

Mariam Dalziel from South Hook LNG said:
“The educational development of young people is central to our engagement with communities throughout Pembrokeshire. We are proud to have supported such valuable and interactive learning through Food Story — an initiative that celebrated food and farming in our county. Congratulations to the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society and the fantastic volunteers who bring Food Story to life.”

An NFU Pembrokeshire spokesperson said: “Food Story is a fantastic opportunity for children across Pembrokeshire to meet the farmers behind the food on their plates. Helping young people understand how local, sustainable food is produced is vital for the future of farming and our rural communities. We’re proud to support an event that inspires the next generation and celebrates everything that is great about Pembrokeshire agriculture.”

A special thank you also goes to local businesses that gave up their time to educate and inspire the next generation: Pure West Radio, Puffin Produce, School Nurses, Pembrokeshire Hogspital, Golden Hooves, First Milk, Castell Howell, Health Aspire, Fenton Vets, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, Merryboro Farm, Keep Wales Tidy, Hook Farm, Pembrokeshire College, Sunnyhill, David Moore Bees and Case A & M.

A big thank you also goes to all the volunteers who freely gave their time to make the event happen. Food Story volunteers will also be present at the Pembrokeshire County Show on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th August 2026, with an interactive display and demonstrations for children to enjoy while learning more about where their food comes from.
